The Cularius are a highly intelligent oceanic species. They live in complex social structures on underwater reefs between 70 and 700 meters. In place of eyes they have rhinophores which let them sense the chemical changes in the water. Ink sacks on their cheeks help them mark prey. They can change their buoyancy by releasing or taking on water in the space between their brain and outer shell. They typically avoid fights and live peacefully in their own underwater towns.
